Introducing the Heat Pump Review Podcast

I've been writing articles on the Heat Pump Review website for a few months now. But today, I'm very excited to announce the launch of the Heat Pump Review podcast. This podcast is an opportunity to dive deeper, going into subjects with experts, rather than just relying on me doing a bunch of research myself and bringing it back to you.

The goal of the podcast to discuss heat pumps in a way that is accessible to people who are curious about the technology and how the technology can be best developed and deployed as the world transitions from inefficiently burning fossil fuels to efficiently heating and cooling our homes and businesses, heating our water, cooling our foods, and even greening our industrial processes with an ever-improving energy grid.

In the coming weeks, you'll hear from a materials engineer on the innovations that have led to improvements in cold climate heat pumps, a nonprofit founder on the concept of electrification and heat pump “coaching,” and the director of the OpenADR Alliance on the protocols which help make HVAC and heat pump water heaters smart and capable of engaging in demand response programs on the electrical grid. You will also hear from a startup at the center of the heat pump financing and incentive landscape, a non profit working on skills development and deploying community service programs to help accelerate the adoption of heat pumps and electrification in low income and disadvantaged communities (LIDAC), and we will talk to an organization at the center of the Community Development Financial Institutions ecosystem (CDFIs) and see how they are approaching the Inflation Reduction Act and deploying the new EPA Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, getting access to financing out to millions of Americans who otherwise might not have great access to capital and who would benefit from heat pumps.

This podcast is is meant to be a conversation with experts, yes, but then also with you. I would love to hear from you if there is a topic you think I should dive into or if there's a guest you think I should spend some time with. If you have questions or follow ups you can use my contact form .

Lastly, if you want to help out, rate and review the podcast on Apple Podcasts – it definitely helps. Your rating and review makes us more discoverable to people who are interested in these topics and it validates that other people are listening when they do stumble upon our podcast.

The number one thing you can do, however, is just think of somebody that you know who is interested in these topics and is also interested in diving deep on them. Maybe that person is in the HVAC industry already. Maybe they're a technologist who is working on products and services that are also accelerating the transition. Maybe they're just an intrepid homeowner, geeking out about these very energy hungry appliances that are in their homes and what the future looks like. Whoever that person is, take stock of your network and then pass on a link to the podcast. The more people who are listening, the more ideas I'll hear about what we should cover next and who I should talk to.

So please do pass around and in the meantime, enjoy. I'll be releasing these initial episodes about once a week and we'll take it from there. So sit back, relax, and coming soon will be Episode 1 of the Heat Pump Review podcast.
